Have you ever wanted the freedom of running downhill, feeling yourself flowing over the ground, light of foot, in control and fully aware of your body? If you want to make the transition from walking in the fells, to moving that bit faster and lighter, read Gemma's account of the Fell Running for Women programme.
About the Programme
I have been running and racing on the fells for 35 years, and decided to combine my professional role as a Business Coach with my passion for being in the hills.
In the Introducing Fellrunning programme I've put together a way of developing skills and confidence in on the fells that is quite unique - combining the mind and body approaches of NLP, Qi Gong and Energetic NLP . Having trained in Kinetic Chain Release, a protocol which balances the mind as well as the body, I ensure that you’re physically set up to move at your best as well as preventing injury. The programme will give you a truly holistic experience and set of skills that are equally applicable to the other parts of your life. We will take some interesting routes over the Howgill and Lakeland fells, to give you a whole new way of experiencing the mountains.
Introducing Fell Running
The programme provides an introduction to the skills required for moving at a faster (than walking) pace over the fells. The days will be tailored to the people in the group with the emphasis on increasing your knowledge and skill in the mountains so that you can move confidently and safely.
We will also spend time finding the most appropriate type of fell shoes and clothing for your type of running.
You definitely don't need to be super-fit as the programme is suitable for women or men of any age, (I'm 55), as good as you have who have a reasonable level of fitness from walking, road running, climbing or a similar sport, and your leg joints don't complain on the ups or downs. You can choose to have to have an all male or all female programme if you prefer.
The programme starts at lunch time of the first day and finishes in time for you to get home on the third day. If you want to extend your stay, there's a three and half day option.

When I was young and didn't know any better, I used to think fell running was just for very fit men and that you needed to be able to run uphill. Then, aged 20, I entered my first fell race. I was working as an Instructor at Eskdale Outward Bound School where it was expected for everyone to take part in the local race. This was 35 years ago and in those days ‘ladies’ were deemed to be not quite as able as the men.......read more About Fellrunning
